Tuna Trace: A Deep Dive into the Sustainable Seafood Movement

May 13, 2016
How businesses are taking action to promote responsibly sourced and served seafood

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the sustainable seafood movement. For almost 15 years, Walton Family Foundation grantee FishWise has pushed the conversation beyond environmental advocates to include the people who catch, sell and consume seafood around the globe. By giving businesses the tools they need to source and promote sustainable seafood, FishWise is helping connect the people who buy fish with environmentally and socially responsible food.

FishWise’s interactive Tuna trace report outlines some of the recent victories sustainable seafood advocates have achieved in making sure consumers can make smarter, more sustainable choices when shopping for tuna, as well as other seafood. These wins range from Hy-Vee selling 100% responsibly sourced fresh and private label frozen seafood to Safeway being the first retailer in the world to offer Fair Trade certified seafood.

Learn more about the work supermarkets, chefs and suppliers are doing to promote responsibly caught tuna and other fish, and protect fisheries and the people who work on them around the world in FishWise’s interactive Tuna trace.
